Rose Middleton's day job takes her surfing, hiking, climbing and mountainbiking through the wilds of Australia...albeit with a dozen teens in tow. As a high school teacher, Rose enjoys being a mentor and guide to today's youngsters, and it gives her the advantage of keeping up to date with the next generation of readers. When Rose needs to escape adolescent hormones, she dives into the calmer waters of romance writing. If her mother only knew! We asked Rose what inspired her to write the Immortals series...
"The Hybrid Series was inspired by three factors: my love of paranormal romance, James Patterson and my cat, Kali. I wanted to write a paranormal romance about shifters that readers could imagine was actually taking place somewhere in the world. Genetic engineering both fascinates and scares me and the moral implications of tinkering with the human blueprint is one of the themes I wanted to explore with the first book, SARI. Of course, spending hours trying to figure out exactly what's going through my cat's head when she's chasing imaginary butterflies had something to do with it, too. I didn't intend on creating an entire series, but when I dug deeper into the bowels of The Facility and found Hawk and Tigress, I knew I couldn't let them disappear into the forest."

What's Next?

COMING SOON - Books 2 and 3 of The Hybrids Series! While you're waiting, Linden Bay Romance was able to get this exclusive interview with the notorious Rex Zimmerman, mastermind of the Hybrid project. We asked Rex to explain what inspired what has become his life's work and to comment on the continued fate of the very controversial Hybrid project. "Humans are a weak species. Really, we are so susceptible to disease it's amazing that we managed to climb to the top of the food chain at all. Somehow we did and it got me thinking, what if we took the best animal traits and combined it with the best of human traits? What an incredibly adept creature we'd create. "I know I have my detractors. Look at Sari, she tried to shut me down and even though she wrestled away control of Eco-Corp and the money it provided, I survived. She said my work was unethical and inhumane, but what she does not recognize is the success. Yes, we had some unfortunate failings early on but those days are behind us. Nothing will go wrong and everyone involved from now on will find no fault in my work. I'm sure she will be the last of the naysayers. "I'm proud of my team for finding The Base and resuming the project with minimal interruption. We were set up and ready to go when the babies were born, and we're in the process of preparing the new generation for release. "Did I need to compromise? Perhaps but while I may not be terribly trusting of my new investors, they are at this very moment building me the perfect laboratory. Best of all, no one will ever find it. I've made doubly sure of that. Once we've completed our last relocation, we can initiate the final phase. I have no doubt that when you come face to face with the perfect thoroughbred hybrid, you will understand my passion and you will see the need for this step in the evolution of humans. "I look forward to seeing you become a hybrid, too."
