Lynn Kelly thought that she’d managed to put her past behind her. Now a successful columnist for the Stock Car Racing League’s premiere magazine, she travels from one race to another covering the action and interviewing the drivers—except for Troy McBride, the driver who once-upon-a-time broke her heart.

Troy seems to have been Born to Run forever from his feelings. Although he usually appears calm, cool, and collected on the outside, no one knows better than Lynn that beneath the practiced façade is a passionate man who can love her like no other and therefore hurt her like no other.

It’s been years since a very young Troy made the blunder of his lifetime, one that cost him the woman he loved. When fate throws him and Lynn together again, painful memories become fresh and feelings he thought were long dormant come roaring to life again. Could this be the second chance both he and Lynn have been waiting for? Only if he can persuade Lynn that he truly regrets the mistakes of his past and can earn her trust again.

From Tracey, Fallen Angel Reviews
"Ms. Anderson captures the fast paced, competitive world of the race car driver, crew, and fans... Born to Run will leave you satisfied. Melanie Anderson deserves a checkered flag for this one!"
Excerpt:
Back at Jake’s pit stall, Lynn was trying hard not to bite her nails. On the track, she could see Jake fighting the car for all it was worth. Even if she couldn’t see him, she could see Brian talking furiously into his mouthpiece while the pit crew was standing at attention, ready to service the car at a moment’s notice. Obviously, everybody was expecting trouble. It was now lap 200—only 67 more to go.

Troy was passing a crush of lap traffic that was fighting hard trying to get back their lap. Most of them were working on keeping up with the leader, who at the moment was Tom Bridges.

“Troy, you’re 2.5 seconds behind the leader. You can probably pass Steve and Rich in traffic.”

Steve and Rich were in 2nd and 3rd. “Ten-four,” Troy answered back.

Troy’s spotter came over the radio.

“Troy watch out from your right—Ned’s right on your ass—HOLY SHIT.”

That was the last thing Troy heard other than the sound of metal hitting the wall at 126 miles per hour.

Lynn had been watching Jake so hard that she hadn’t even realized what was going on in turn two until she’d heard Brian say, “Fuck. That’s Troy.”

Lynn turned just in time to see Troy being spun out from behind and hitting the wall hard, with that same awful metal screeching noise she’d come to hate.

“Troy!” Lynn shouted, before scrambling off Jake’s transporter. She nearly fell onto one of Jake’s crewmembers before she could get free to run over to the track. She stared transfixed as Troy’s car sat silent while the paramedics and track officials ran over to it.

She breathed a sigh of relief when Troy’s car started up again burning rubber on his way to the garage.

Looking around, Lynn suddenly realized that Ned Garrett was going to the garage, too, because when he’d spun Troy, he’d also hit the wall. What a jackass, Lynn thought.

Looking up at the big screen, she noticed Troy getting out of his car, pushing his own crewmembers aside before stalking off. His walk was purposeful; a man on a mission. The implications of that started to sink into Lynn’s mind.

He was going to kick Ned’s ass. Lynn started running toward Ned’s garage and Troy.

~

There was a red haze covering Troy’s mind. Sonovabitch, he thought. He was going to get that asshole.

“Troy!” Lynn yelled. She was breathing hard, half-running and half-walking. Damn, she was in bad shape.

Troy was still marching forward with the cameramen following while SCRL officials were coming towards him from all parts of the track. He was going to get in some serious trouble if he reached Ned before someone stopped him.

Lynn was determined to be that person even if it killed her, and it just might. Despite her personal resolve to avoid Troy, she couldn’t just sit back and let him screw up his racing season.
